OLD COOTS ON SCOOTS

OLD COOTS ON SCOOTS - CHAPTER 32

GROUP RIDING PROCEDURES

KEY GROUP PERSONNEL:

Ride Leader, Road Captain, and Sweep

BASIC PROCEDURES:

All riders should wear their colors while riding with the group.

All new riders in the group will ride along side their sponsor in the front half of the formation.

Staggered formation with center lane clear for visibility (ride leader to sweep).

     Keep formation tight.

    Keep your speed consistent.

All riders will use hand signals which should be passed back to the sweep.

When a gap occurs, the rider behind that gap will safely and as soon as possible fill in that gap. NO CRISSCROSSING.

When the group is separated, the riders in the rear of the lead group will signal the ride leader with their 4-way flashers until the leader acknowledges by waving with their left arm.

Homeward bound, if you intend to break off on way home, you need to let the road captain and sweep know. Position yourself in the rear of the group just in front of the sweep.

Obey all traffic lights and signs.

RIDE LEADERS:

Pre-plan your ride and route and notify Mary by the Wednesday before your ride as to the destination and whether  helmets are required so she may put it on the web-site.

No more than 5 miles over the speed limit and keep speed consistent.

Passing, merging and lane changes are to be executed only when all riders in the group can safely do so.

Use hand signals at all times. Remember, it may be safer to go back than to surprise the riders behind you.

When a separation in the group occurs and you are signaled by the rear riders with their 4 way flashers, acknowledge them with a back and forth wave with your left arm. On a 4 lane road, pullover to the right lane and slow till the separated group catches up. On a 2 lane road, continue at the speed limit and wait till either the next turn or a place where all in the lead group can pull over safely and wait for the separated group to catch up.

REMEMBER: There are no individuals. We are a group and we ride as a group.

Be safe, alert and aware. Use common sense.

Show up with a full tank and an empty bladder.

RIDE SAFE!
